Suicide bomber attacks Syrian security compound

BEIRUT (AP) ? A suicide attacker detonated a car bomb near a compound of the Syrian intelligence on the outskirts of Damascus on Monday, a Syrian official said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in the blast in Harasta, a suburb of the nation's capital, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

The blast could be heard across Damascus and was followed by armed clashes, said the pro-government TV station Al-Ikhbariya. Ambulances and fire trucks were seen driving to the scene.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Syrian rebels trying to topple President Bashar Assad are increasingly targeting security compounds and symbols of the regime in Damascus.

Foreclosures: Home Equity Won't Return Until 2026! ? CT Homes LLC

Could it really take until 2026 for home prices to recover from foreclosures and return to their previous levels?

Sensational new headlines from CNN Money and analytics firm Fiserv claim that home equity could take until 2023 or even 2026 to come back for homeowners. Could this be true and what does it mean for homeowners, those considering buying a home and real estate investors?

Based on forecasts of annual home price growth of just 3.7% by Fiserv it could take this long for property owners to see their home equity return to previous highs meaning those struggling to keep up with mortgage payments and facing foreclosure certainly stand little chance of waiting out the crisis to sell their homes and may be better off cutting their losses, taking advantages of current short sale programs and tax benefits and getting on with a fresh new start.

However, savvy real estate pros who really know their data also know that figures like these are fatally flawed and skewed. Indices are notoriously faulted by both lags in recording and the metrics they track and while national stats give a broad indication of trends they mean little on a local level.

For example these predictions forecast a measly 2.7% rise in Arizona home prices for the next 5 years, but we know that Phoenix has already seen a 16.6% year-over-year rise as of July 2012 and we are just beginning the real estate recovery. Similarly San Diego real estate has seen home values in some zip codes rising between 30% and 130% over the last year. So yes, even at these dramatic rates it may take a few more years for home equity to bounce back in a big way but the odds are we will well surpass 2007 home prices in the next decade.

Plus, what these reports fail to point out is how median home sales prices are poor indicators of real increases in home value. So much of the real estate activity of the last few years has been relegated to the lowest end of the market. That is already changing and as we see more luxury home sales these stats will jump significantly in a short period of time.

So what?s the bottom line? It is prime time for homeowners facing foreclosure to cash out, those buying a home to pull the trigger and for real estate investors to lock into great profits.

Taking Your Internet Marketing To The Next Level

With all the competition in online business, your marketing techniques may be the one thing that sets you apart from other Internet companies. It is best to look at the different ways to market and promote your business. If you want to get ahead with your business, the tips to help are right here.

If your customers are aware of incentives or promotions that you offer, they will be more apt to order right away. Some examples of good customer incentives are gifts wrapped for free, fast or free shipping, and online coupons. One way to do this is to offer free shipping to the first 100 customers who purchase a specified item. This will tempt your visitors to purchase your products.

Including a FAQ can be a helpful way to advertise the products you sell or the services you offer. Think of the common questions or problems you see often, and provide helpful solutions that utilize your products or services. Write the questions so that you will have the opportunity to mention your products in the answer without making it look too much like product placement.

If you are using email marketing, you need to rotate links that are included in your correspondence. Your customers will start to ignore your links if they never change. Keeping things constantly changing (even just a little bit) will prevent your readers from skipping over your links.

Offer repeat customers the option to subscribe to a product or service. For example, if a customer purchases a ream of computer paper, offer him or her a twenty-five percent discount if he or she signs up to buy a ream every month.

Make sure you provide the information your customers want on your page. Only having one web page that include the business hours and address really is not attractive to customers. Build up your website with useful content, interesting reviews and other things that shows your visitors that you know what you are doing and that you are not just a fly by night presence.

Think about how pertinent your service or product really is. If your product is sub-par, no amount of Internet marketing will change that. To see sales soar, ensure your product is the very best it can be, particularly in comparison to similar items already on the market.

Lastly, remember that focus is essential to Internet marketing. If you stay focused and committed, you can make the most out of your plan. Remember, though, that the knowledge you learn is only as good as the implementation of the tactic.

Obama trying to avoid miscue in first debate

(AP) ? President Barack Obama has one mission heading into his first debate with Republican Mitt Romney: Don't screw things up.

Less than five weeks from Election Day, Obama has political momentum and an edge in polls of the battleground states that will determine the election. But he's expected to face a blistering challenge from Romney, who needs to use Wednesday's debate in Denver to change the trajectory of the race.

The president retreated to a desert resort in Nevada for three days of intensive debate preparation for Wednesday night. He's joined by a cadre of top advisers, who are focused on helping Obama trim his often-lengthy explanations to fit the debate format.

Equally important is coaching Obama to look calm and presidential during an onslaught of criticism from Romney.

Supreme Court rejects appeal on airport scanners

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Supreme Court on Monday refused to consider a Michigan blogger's challenge of the use of full-body scanners and thorough pat-downs at airport checkpoints.

Without comment, the court declined to take up Jonathan Corbett's complaint that the Transportation Security Administration's use of the screening techniques violated passengers' protection against illegal searches under the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The TSA, in October 2010, directed the use of the scanners, sometimes known as advanced imaging technology, which some critics fear could emit too much radiation.

In addition, the TSA authorized enhanced pat-downs, which could include the touching of genitals, buttocks and breasts, for passengers unwilling to go through the scanners. Passengers who rejected both procedures would not be allowed to fly.

Corbett, who maintains the "TSA Out of Our Pants!" blog, complained that the TSA lacked unilateral authority to adopt the procedures.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta had rejected Corbett's case, saying a lower court correctly concluded that it did not have jurisdiction to review a TSA order.

On his blog, Corbett wrote that he plans to continue pursuing his case, using procedures allowed by the 11th Circuit. "The good news is that the fight is not over," he wrote.

The case is Corbett v. U.S., U.S. Supreme Court, No. 11-1413.

Boise State vs. New Mexico notebook

Boise State wide receiver Shane Williams-Rhodes celebrates his touchdown in the fourth quarter against New Mexico on Saturday at University Stadium in Albuquerque, N.M.

GERKE, GAVINS START

Boise State junior Spencer Gerke replaced senior Joe Kellogg at left guard for the second straight game. Kellogg missed the BYU game with an injury.

Senior Jerrell Gavins made his second start of the year at cornerback and first in a two-corner alignment. Sophomore Bryan Douglas had started the first three games.

Kellogg came into the game in the second half after starting right guard Michael Ames and backup guard/tackle Jake Broyles were injured on back-to-back plays. Kellogg finished the game.

Tight end Gabe Linehan was in street clothes in the second half and backup tailback Drew Wright didn?t make the trip because of an injury sustained in the BYU game.

Petersen didn?t provide any details on the injuries but said he hopes all of the players will be back soon.

FOURTH-DOWN FAILURES

Boise State is now 0-for-7 on fourth down this season after the Broncos kept the offense on the field for fourth-and-1 at the New Mexico 4-yard line in the second half. Quarterback Joe Southwick rolled right and flipped a pass over the head of fullback Dan Paul.

?We?ve got to hit that,? Petersen said. ?We?ve either got to run for it or hit it. It was open.?

TD DROUGHT ENDS

Boise State didn?t get into the end zone in the first quarter, the sixth straight quarter without an offensive touchdown.

The Broncos finally cracked the goal line 32 seconds into the second quarter. Chris Potter caught a short pass on a crossing route and cut up the sideline for a 10-yard touchdown.

This year, the Broncos have scored an offensive touchdown in just five of 16 quarters.

MILLER SCORES, THROWS

Boise State sophomore wide receiver Matt Miller caught a 9-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and operated the swinging-gate two-point conversion that followed. Miller took the snap, rolled to his right to draw the defense and flipped a pass to wide-open tight end Connor Peters in the back of the end zone for two points. The pass nearly was overthrown.

?We?ve had it in the books a couple weeks now,? Miller said. ?Excited we got to run it in a game situation. Connor Peters sitting in the back of the end zone, he made a good catch on a bad throw.?

BIG NIGHT FOR AJAYI

Redshirt freshman tailback Jay Ajayi became the first Boise State freshman to rush for 100 yards in a game since Matt Kaiserman in 2009 at Hawaii ? and he did it in stunning speed.

Ajayi carried six times for 118 yards at the end of the first half, including a 71-yard dash down the right sideline that set up his own 1-yard scoring run.

He didn?t get a carry in the second half.

Senior starting tailback D.J. Harper rushed 19 times for 98 yards.

?That was great,? Petersen said of Ajayi. ?I wish the second half would have gone a little bit different for us to hang on to the ball and pound the run game a little bit and get him back in there. ? We?ve said all along, D.J. can?t take every rep, but we didn?t have the ball that much (in the second half), so he?s got to go.?

OFFENSE GETS FUNKY

On the opening drive, Boise State used formations that put Harper and wide receiver Shane Williams-Rhodes in the backfield, Harper and tailback Jack Fields in the backfield, and Harper, Fields and Ajayi in the backfield.

On those plays, the Broncos threw a 9-yard pass to Williams-Rhodes, gained 2 yards on third-and-1 on a handoff to Harper at fullback and lost 5 yards when Harper was tackled as the wildcat quarterback.

QUICK HITS

J.C. Percy recorded a season-high 13 tackles (his career high is 14). It was his second-straight game with 10-plus tackles. ? Boise State?s single-game captains were wide receiver Mitch Burroughs, fullback Dan Paul, nickel Dextrell Simmons and Gavins. ? Boise State won the coin toss and deferred.
