Some Great Ideas on Reselling Ebooks : The Wise Directory

February 28, 2012 ? Posted in Business?

Reselling ebooks is the popular term in the world of internet marketing. Most internet marketers are in ebook selling business but not everyone is aware of the full potential. I have been working online for last 3 years and I have discovered many pit-falls and benefits. I just want to share them with you.

There are various kinds of resale rights available, depending on what you intend to do with the ebooks you purchase. Normally, ebooks comes with normal resale rights, which allow you to resell the ebook as many times as you want. There may be some restrictions on your reselling activities, like the minimum price you can charge for it or where you can sell the ebook. Each ebook comes with a license document. Go through them carefully to find out these restrictions.

While reselling ebooks, there are a few things to keep in mind. Such as the niche should be in high demand, your ebooks are never out of stock; and you can do this business sitting back to your favorite couch. When getting involved with ebooks business, there are some rules that must be considered with great importance. You will basically buy the rights to sell the online ebooks. These ebooks has been written by someone else. The moment you buy the rights, you can re-write it and make it as your own creation. But you have to buy the rights to do this, which is not difficult though. Keep in mind that not necessarily every license will give you the right to alter the product. Your basic intention may be to change the author name to your own name or to put your own name on the sales letter. It?s good and this can help you to build your own Brand! Just imagine how disappointed you will be if you discover too late that this is just not possible.

EBay is another opportunity related with ebooks. Ebooks have always been selling like hotdogs on eBay and other popular auction websites. But with eBay?s ban on auctioning digital items, the selling market has gone down drastically. Luckily, there is an easy way around eBay?s limitations, even without breaking the rules. Simply copy an ebook onto a CD and sell it on EBay. It?s within eBay?s rules to sell digital items this way. As long as you are offering a tangible item, you can list it for auction.

Finally, I want to say that ebooks are the best-selling digital formats over Internet. It is more easy to insert affiliate links into an eBook rather than a software or nearly impossible to do with audio/video format. Just try to learn how you can distinguish the most suitable type of license for the sake of your business.

Smokeless cigarettes is a much safer and cost effective alternative to deadly tobacco. Compare electronic cigarettes before you buy online.

First Summer Session 2012
May 14 ? June 25
English 150 Studies in Ethnic Literatures (Class ID# 2723)
African American Narratives
Professor Carol Allen
Mondays & Wednesdays, 2:00 ? 4:50 PM
This course will satisfy the Literature requirement in either the Creative Writing concentration or the Writing & Rhetoric concentration. It can satisfy a general English elective requirement in the Literature concentration. It can also be applied toward the English minor. Any student may take ENG 140, 150, 170 or 180 a second time for credit. This course looks at fictional and nonfictional narrative accounts by African American writers from the Slave Narrative to Barack Obama?s recent autobiography. We will examine a sampling of narratives from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries written by former slaves, then move on to the Harlem Renaissance, and our final unit highlights contemporary texts that include narratives by John Edgar Wideman, Ntozake Shange, Adrienne Kennedy, and Barack Obama. We will foreground such questions as why do African Americans write autobiography and/or fictional accounts that use first person narration, what are the gender differences, and what are the politics of writing for an audience that may be unfamiliar with the cultural currency in the text.Over the course, you will enhance your critical reading skills, perfect your research and writing, gain a sense of different styles and approaches to literary criticism, and become informed about the major cultural and social debates that have arisen in the last thirty years. I hope as well that you will discover writing styles that help you to think critically about your creative writing as you may discover what works for your memoir production by comparing it to the broad variety of vehicles that we will explore. Assignments include position papers, leading class discussion, and a final essay. Readings, usually a section of the text, will come from the following sources:
  1. The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Olaudah Equiano

  3. Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick Douglass
  4. Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Harriet Jacobs

The Making of English Literary Tradition
Professor Srividhya SwaminathanTuesdays & Thursdays, 4:30 ? 5:45 PMThis course is required in the Literature concentration.? It can satisfy a Literature requirement in either the Creative Writing concentration or the Writing & Rhetoric concentration. It can also be applied toward the English minor. What does it mean to be English and how does language contribute to the construction of identity?? Why do we study early English literature and what kinds of things are we to learn from the texts?? How did English literary traditions evolve over time to create a cohesive identity and culture for its people?? This course will begin a chronological survey of the development of English literary traditions beginning in the ninth century with Beowulf.? Students will gain an understanding of the evolution of the English language from its earliest forms to the more modern version of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. ?We will read literature by Chaucer and contemporaries of Shakespeare. ?The course will introduce students to the differences in genre by understanding changes in narrative based on form. ?For example, we will examine how the move from long narrative poetry of the Medieval period gave way to the more popular drama and lyric poetry of the Renaissance and ultimately to the novel in the Eighteenth Century. ?Not only did the English language develop in form but also in prestige as authors soon began choosing to write in English as a literary language (as opposed to French).??By examining the geographic and cultural boundaries as they change over the centuries, students will gain a better grasp of the fluidity of ?English? or ?British? identity.??

English 158 Early Literatures of the United States (Class ID# 4155)

Tuesdays, 6:00 ? 8:30 PMThis course is required in the Literature concentration.? It can satisfy a Literature requirement in either the Creative Writing concentration or the Writing & Rhetoric concentration. It can also be applied toward the English minor.
This course explores early American writing before the Civil War. We will examine what makes Americans American through the lens of early writings of the United States, texts that establish the mores, desires, norms, and perspective of a nascent nation. That is: a focus on works that attempt to collect and make coherent the raw and disparate pieces that will go into forming the US (which is still very much under construction). As a counterpoint to our concentration on collection and coherence, we will read one piece that focuses on dispersion: an alternative way to think about this period, Equiano?s slave narrative/travel document of the Atlantic. By the end of the semester, you will have thought about how nation-building is as much a product of dream and myth as it is actual tangible work. Expect to read selections/texts from Equiano, John Winthrop, Anne Bradstreet, Thomas Jefferson, Harriet Wilson, Charles Brockden Brown, James Fenimore Cooper, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Abraham Lincoln. Assignments include informal writing, in-class essays, presentation, and final paper.
English 164 Explorations in Creative Writing (Class ID# 5265)
A Writers Studio: Haiku to Hip-Hop?Zen, Wabi-Sabi, Haibun & Real NYC Stories

This course is required in the Creative Writing concentration.? It can satisfy a general English elective requirement in the Literature concentration. It can satisfy the Creative Writing requirement in either the Literature concentration or the Writing & Rhetoric concentration. It can also be applied toward the English minor. Any student may take this course a second time for credit.
Do you ever write poems, lyrics, or stories? Are you interested in haiku poetry, hip-hop, or spoken word? Do you miss the imaginative stories you created as a child? Do you secretly write in a journal or diary? Have you always wanted to write a poem but were afraid? This course is for anyone who has ever wanted to express him- or herself creatively or?who wants to develop his or her imaginative voice.

In the course we?ll play with writing techniques of the East from Japan to China and study their influence & possibilities for our own writing in BK, NYC. So what is the relationship between traditions, between haiku and hip-hop, for instance?between innovation and being one?s true self, and a writer?s unique story or poetic, history, background, and culture? If our own voices grow out of the past and from traditions firmly rooted in the power of language, in this class our goal will be to open ourselves to diverse aesthetics ranging from the meditative spirit of Zen and wabi-sabi to the contemporary tempo of artistic sounds and music emerging from the streets of the city. How is perfection only mastered in the imperfection of form? How does the chaos of a story find structure in the harmony of imbalance? If haibun is often described as narratives of epiphany, wabi-sabi concentrates on daily life. As with hip-hop and rap and the street stories of New York, both forms have manifested more as expressions of urban life and travel dialogues in American usage. We?ll play with these condensed forms of syntax and sensory impressions, experiment with writing in the present tense, and focus our language on tone and setting in our weekly workshops. The course will include workshops, film, music, artwork, and informal talks and will conclude with a chapbook and manifesto of your own work for the semester.English 165 Poetry Workshop (Class ID# 4201)
How to Get There
Thursdays, 6:00 ? 8:30 PMThis course will satisfy a Creative Writing elective requirement in the Creative Writing concentration.? It can satisfy a general English elective requirement in the Literature concentration. It can satisfy the Creative Writing requirement in either the Literature concentration or the Writing & Rhetoric concentration. It can also be applied toward the English minor. English majors concentrating in Creative Writing may take this course a second time for credit.

Our ideas about poetry are often instilled in us at a very young age?and often those ideas are based on a narrow concept, as if poetry were just one thing written in one way. Our goal in this course is to expand the definition of poetry?to see what?s possible, both as writers and readers. We?ll do this by exploring the traditions of poetry and the various forms of poetry (among them the sonnet, the sestina, the villanelle) and by paying close attention to the way that poetry changes through time and how much great poetry is a reflection of the age in which it was written. We?ll also discuss the act of writing poetry as one of risk-taking and investigation, and how nothing ever changes unless you experiment or try something new. Is all great writing, for instance, experimental writing? In what way is writing poetry similar to scientific discovery or invention? We?ll discuss, at length, what ?experiment? means in relation to poetry. Most important, we?ll try to trace the relationship between poetry and daily life.Among the poets we?ll look at closely are William Carlos Williams, Charles Reznikoff, Ted Berrigan, Anne Waldman, Diane di Prima, Robert Creeley, Bernadette Mayer, Amiri Baraka, Jack Spicer, Gary Snyder, Gregory Corso, Kenneth Koch, Frank O?Hara, and Allen Ginsberg.A final portfolio, consisting of all your written work, is due at the end of the semester.
English 169 Nonwestern or Postcolonial Literature (Class ID# 5266)
The Black Atlantic
Professor Jonathan Haynes
Wednesdays, 3:00 ? 5:30 PM

This course is required in the Literature concentration.? It can satisfy a Literature requirement in either the Creative Writing concentration or the Writing & Rhetoric concentration. It can also be applied toward the English minor. The African diaspora was not a simple matter of Africans being transported to the New World as slaves.? ?The Black Atlantic? is Paul Gilroy?s phrase for the dense networks built up over the centuries as black people crisscrossed the ocean in all directions, maintaining connections between Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Americas. This matrix gave birth to various conceptions of pan-Africanism.? We will consider the facts of the matter, the histories of slavery, black sailors, cosmopolitan intellectuals, and labor migrants.? We will follow African gods and spirits?Mami Wata, Yemoja, Ogun, Elegba, the Sankofa bird?to the New World.? Film, the visual arts, and music will come into the story, but we will be principally concerned with how writers have represented and interpreted this rich if often painful history.? An independent research project will allow students to explore their own particular interests.English 171 Introduction to Classical Rhetoric (Class ID# 5920)Mondays & Wednesdays 4:30 - 5:45 pm This course is required in the Writing & Rhetoric concentration.? It can satisfy a general English elective requirement in the Literature concentration. It can satisfy the Writing & Rhetoric requirement in either the Literature concentration or the Creative Writing concentration. It can also be applied toward the English minor.Students have been studying classical rhetoric for more than 2400 years, starting with the ancient Greeks, so why study it in 2012? Classical rhetoric offers us guidelines for how to be persuasive. In ancient times, rhetoric played a key role in the birth of our traditions of democratic politics and law. In modern times, classical rhetoric has been revived to guide us in analyzing the persuasive messages around us and to make our own writing more persuasive. In this course, students will learn concepts from classical rhetoric and apply them to analyze contemporary writing, speaking, and multimedia communication in . . .

? advertising, marketing, and public relations;? traditional media and new digital media;? our personal lives and communities.

By the end of the course, students will better recognize how language persuades us of what we believe and whom we believe. Students will also have developed their sensitivity to the power in others? use of language and will become more empowered in their own use of language. This course is designed not only for English majors but also for students from disciplines such as Political Science, Education, Business, Journalism, and Media Arts who seek to develop their skills as critical readers and persuasive writers. Professor Maria McGarrityMondays, 6:00 ? 8:30 PMThis course will satisfy the Literature requirement in either the Creative Writing concentration or the Writing & Rhetoric concentration. It can satisfy a general English elective requirement in the Literature concentration. It can also be applied toward the English minor. Any student may take ENG 140, 150, 170 or 180 a second time for credit. The history of literature is filled with myths and legends that recur persistently. In this course, we will examine the enduring tales of fiction that writers have revisited repeatedly. The number of texts we could consider is infinite, so we?ll focus on the intersections of specific themes, namely Marriage, Murder, and Madness. We will read for the appreciation of the aesthetic completeness of each individual work while also investigating the endurance, appeal, and variety of manifestations of each tale. We will examine how writers conceptualize narrative differently while attending to and responding to the concerns of their predecessors. Why do themes intersect in certain works and remain distinct in others?? What does this tell us about the societies in which these authors created? We will analyze the creative process and the notion of inspiration and investigate the conceptualization of new fiction that responds to old. We will discuss how these new fictions operate as both homage and critique. We will watch film versions of two texts in lieu of reading to discuss how medium affects interpretation and retelling. Our reading list will include works from Europe, the Caribbean, and the US. We will juxtapose Shakespeare?s Hamlet and Updike?s Gertrude and Claudius, Bront??s Jane Eyre and Rhys? Wide Sargasso Sea, and Austen?s Pride and Prejudice and Fielding?s Bridget Jones? Diary. On the final day, time permitting, we will examine selections from Joyce?s Ulysses and Walcott?s Omeros.Requirements:? A mid-term exam, a final exam, a 5-page creative re-imagination of a recurring literary tale, and a final 5-7 page research paper on an approved topic related to the course. Kelly Thomas Beating Death: Fullerton Police Not Intentionally Deceptive, Says Report

FULLERTON, Calif. -- A California police department had no intent to deceive the public by releasing an old booking photo of a homeless man who died after a confrontation with officers or information about officers' potential injuries from the confrontation, an independent consultant said Tuesday.

However, the chief attorney for the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review recommended that the city of Fullerton draft a policy for releasing photos and make sure information is correct before releasing it.

"We found no evidence of intent by the Police Department to deceive or falsify," Michael Gennaco said during a packed City Council meeting as he gave an interim report on four issues related to the incident, which was partially recorded by bystanders' cellphone cameras.

Gennaco did not address the confrontation directly and said he aimed to report back about the struggle and Fullerton Police Department policies in April.

Police initially indicated that officers may have suffered broken bones in the July 5 confrontation with 37-year-old Kelly Thomas at a Fullerton transit hub. That turned out not to be the case, leading some people to question whether the department was trying to drum up sympathy, Gennaco said.

He also said the department should have consulted with Thomas' family before releasing an old booking photo that didn't portray him in a flattering light.

The city hired Gennaco after Thomas, who had been treated for schizophrenia, died following the struggle with six officers. Thomas died five days after the confrontation.

The Orange County district attorney's office filed charges last year against Officer Manuel Ramos, who has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter, and Cpl. Jay Cicinelli, who has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and excessive force.

Other issues addressed by Gennaco included the call for service that night by a woman who said a person she knew as "Kelly" was "roaming the parking lot" and "looking in cars" and "pulling on handles." He also said a search of a backpack carried by Thomas revealed mail, a passport and employee identification belonging to other people, but these items had been discarded and lost ? not stolen.

Thomas' father said he thought the report somewhat vindicated his son but he did not believe the Police Department had no intent to deceive the public.

"All of it was intended to make Kelly look bad ? every bit of it," Ron Thomas told reporters after the meeting. "They didn't have the facts there, and as it comes out now, it's not substantiated."

Planet Waves FM: The Fire Breathing Fish | Astrology Blog, Monthly ...

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Today?s edition of Planet Waves FM was recorded Tuesday right before the Pisces New Moon, by your host, the Fire Breathing Fish. It morphs from a reading of the New Moon chart into a rant on women?s autonomy and what used to be called reproductive rights. Casting the issue as total sovereignty is more accurate. But it lacks a certain appeal ? where there are rights, there are responsibilities. Privilege without a corresponding sense of duty is inherently toxic ? and even well-bred royalty know this. If we?re wondering why any woman is willing to give up her rights, her autonomy or her sovereignty, the answer may be found in her relationship to being a steward of her own body and the power that it contains.

The Virgo Squad -- Betty Dodson, right, with Planet Waves friend and contributor Beth Bagner.

At a certain point in the podcast I launch into a tirade on the religious ?right? doing its takedown of women, and then describe a new video by my mentor and friend Betty Dodson. She?s recently come out with a new video in her series on women?s sexuality, a documentary of one of her bodysex workshops.

I highly recommend this video and I will be reviewing it more thoroughly soon. I recognize that it?s $40 so I suggest you go in with a few friends and make an evening or two of it. What this DVD offers is a model for a sane conversation about sex and sexuality. If nothing else, we get a model for how to think and how to speak ? in an original way, but within a framework that includes boundaries, a sense of purpose and most important, a sense of humor.

It includes discussion of body image, sexual evolution, making choices, the struggle with sex within relationships and many other topics. Part of the problem we face is that we don?t know how to talk about sex, we?re embarrassed to do so, it rarely happens so we don?t get any practice, and we?re afraid that Western civilization (or at least our relationship) will collapse if we even try. I guess we will have to see.

It?s twenty-sodding-twelve and we?re really discussing whether people have a right to use birth control? Or rather a bunch of men who want to take public office and be commander-in-chief are discussing whether they think women have a right to use birth control? Most of the time I look at this and I cannot believe it?s even happening.

I recommend all of Betty?s videos but my personal favorite is Her Life of Sex and Art, a frank (and frankly hilarious) talk given by Betty in good old politically correct, may I please glance at you Seattle. This is Betty at her most authentic and spontaneous ? an off the cuff description of her life, that is, her life of art and sex. This DVD is $10 and it?s nothing but fun. If you would like to read more about Betty, here is one of my articles about her.

Wonder

A poem.

Wonder winter in the desert has a type of poetry all its own
?the way silence bears the weight of snow
?and the sun struggles weakly through an ash colored sky
?weak and weary, like a swimmer without rest
? it's as if a young man on a trip with his parents and younger brother
?would awaken at 6:30 one frosty morning
?(the dawn being a mixture of pink and black)
?stepping out of his motel room in a tiny town in southern Utah
?and in five minutes of empty staring
?could store up enough wonder for the world
?that he could begin asking himself what college was for anyway
? on a trip to see Bryce Canyon in the days after Christmas, before the new year
?so that when the boy awakened, the two of them alone without their parents
?could stare together for a solid ten minutes
?each of their five minutes joined together
?and say nothing, their hands jammed in trouser pockets
?air like smoke pouring from their mouths and nostrils
?gazing at the bare mountains covered with snow
?like massive cakes with frosting
? sensing that this stuff of postcards
?combined with the fading phosphorescence of the motel's neon sign
?was very good, and beyond all explanation
? ? Paul Flodquist

Why aren't I building muscle ? Beauty Tips, Health Tips, Fitness Tips ...

Have you ever asked yourself that question? Have you been going to the gym regularly for months and haven?t been able to put on any serious poundage? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it?s time to take a step back and make some plans. Building muscle is not rocket science. There are four key factors that will mean the difference between building muscle or staying skinny. You have to ask yourself these four questions.

Is my diet optimized for building muscle?

It?s time to get out of the ?3 meals per day? mentality. If you want to gain (or lose) weight you need to feed your body whole foods, six times per day. This means splitting your large meals up and eating about once every three hours. Not only is this good for your metabolism, but your body will use the foods instead of storing them as fat.

Your six meals per day should consist of mainly complex carbohydrates and protein. You should aim for at least thirty grams of protein per meal. High protein foods include lean meat, chicken, fish, egg whites, cheese and milk products. Complex carbohydrates are found in brown rice, brown bread and potatoes. Stay away from foods high in salt and sugar

Should I be using supplements, and when should I be taking them?

If you can afford supplements you should be using them. The basic three you should be considering are protein, carbs and creatine. Whey protein supplements are the fastest known way to deliver quality protein to your muscles. This makes shakes particularly effective after your workouts, when your body is craving protein for muscle re-growth.

There are three key times that supplements should be taken. First thing in the morning, after your workout and before bed. If your diet is up to scratch you shouldn?t need supplements at any other time. Don?t use supplements to replace meals. Supplements are supplements, not meal replacements.

Am I training hard and not smart?

The biggest mistake the new lifters make is thinking that the more they workout the bigger they?ll get. This couldn?t be further from the truth! Two basic rules you must remember when it comes to weight training. First, quality is better than quantity. Second, compound exercises are the kings of building muscle.

Compound exercises require at least two joint movements. Big compound exercises are the squat, bench press, wide grip pull up and seated row. These movements recruit many more muscles fibers to use to move the weight. This means more muscle groups are worked, the exercise is more challenging and the potential for growth is much greater.

Generally you should be doing three compound exercises for one isolation exercise. For example your back/biceps workout might consist of wide grip pull ups, seated row, bent over row and standing bicep curl. You might think this is not enough work for your biceps? Wrong. Your biceps are worked heavily in all over these exercises; the bicep curl just finishes them off.

The length of any training session should not exceed one hour. And you only need to train one muscle group once per week. This means a split routine should only need to be three days per week. In fact, most professional bodybuilders only train four times per week. Remember, it?s quality not quantity.

Do I get enough rest and recovery time?

When you workout you?re not building your muscles, you?re breaking them down. The reason why you looked ?pumped up? when you?re in the gym is because your muscle tissue is swollen and damaged. Your muscles actually grow when you are resting. So in simple terms, no rest equals no muscle growth.

So take it easy when you?re not working out. Ease up on the cardio. And make sure you get plenty of sleep. Sleep is the body?s number one time for building muscle. This is also why it?s important to eat before bed, so your body has the fuel to repair muscle in your sleep.

Simple isn?t it?

So you can see that despite what you read in magazines or on the web about building muscle, it?s surprisingly simple. If you get the four aspects I have mentioned in this article right, you will build muscle. If you?ve got any questions, I?m available on the forum on my site. See links in my bio.

Amazon accidentally starts shipping the PS Vita early ? Video ...

A few gamers in Canada eagerly awaiting the launch of the PS Vita got a welcome surprise this week when their pre-ordered Vita?s arrived in the post.

The official launch of the PS Vita hardware is split between the first edition bundle, available from February 15, and the standard Wi-Fi and 3G editions coming the week after on February 22. However, someone at Amazon in Canada messed up, or at least someone with access to the shipping system did, and started sending out the stock early.

We don?t know how many PS Vitas managed to leave Amazon?s warehouses in Canada, but proof they got delivered can be seen on the Red Flag Deals forum. Images have been posted by the lucky few of the Amazon shipping confirmation and the received unit being unboxed to prove this wasn?t a joke.

The Vitas actually shipped on February 7 to arrive the following day and a week earlier than expected. Unfortunately for other Canadian gamers, Amazon soon realized their mistake and halted all further shipments until next week.

Hopefully those lucky few gamers will spend the week putting the hardware through its paces and letting us know if any issues pop up. Remember, soon after launch in Japan there was a growing number of reports stating the Vita was freezing and the touchscreen became unresponsive.

Sony has now fixed the issues with a software update rather than a hardware recall, so we assume the latest firmware will be shipped with PS Vitas in the West.

GOP Vows To Reverse Obama's Birth Control Policy | MyMajicDC ...

GOP vows to reverse Obama's birth control policyWASHINGTON ? Republicans vowed Wednesday to reverse President Barack Obama?s new policy on birth control, lambasting the requirement that religious schools and hospitals provide employees with free contraceptives as an ?unambiguous attack on religious freedom in our country.?

SEE ALSO: Santorum Sweeps Romney

The White House pushed back in the face of a political firestorm, arguing that Obama was sensitive to the objections and looking for a way to allay the concerns. Democratic women lawmakers put up a united front in defending the administration.

?Women?s health care should not depend on who the boss is,? said Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky.

The fight over the administration mandate escalated as House Speaker John Boehner accused the administration of violating First Amendment rights and undermining some of the country?s most vital institutions, such as Catholic charities, schools and hospitals. He demanded that Obama rescind the policy or else Congress will.

?This attack by the federal government on religious freedom in our country cannot stand, and will not stand,? Boehner, a Catholic and Ohio Republican, said in a rare floor speech.

The contentious issue has roiled the presidential race and angered religious groups, especially Catholics, who say the requirement would force them to violate church teachings and long-held beliefs against contraception.

It also has pushed social issues to the forefront in an election year that has been dominated by the economy. Abortion, contraception and any of the requirements of Obama?s health care overhaul law have the potential to galvanize the Republicans? conservative base, critical to voter turnout in the presidential and congressional races.

Clearly sensing a political opening, Republicans ramped up the criticism. Shortly after Boehner spoke, GOP senators gathered on the other side of the Capitol to hammer the administration and insist that they will push ahead with legislation to undo the requirement.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., called the new rule ?an unprecedented affront to religious liberty. This is not a women?s rights issue. This is a religious liberty issue.?

The issue is not contraception, said Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., but ?whether the government of the United States should have the power to go in and tell a faith-based organization that they have to pay for something that they teach their members shouldn?t be done. It?s that simple. And if the answer is yes, then this government can reach all kinds of other absurd results.?

The White House, facing a public and political outcry, engaged in damage control, circulating letters and statements from outside groups defending its position.

Administration officials had signaled on Tuesday that a compromise was possible and made clear Wednesday it was still looking for a way to deal with the issue.

?The president is committed, as I?ve tried to make clear, to ensuring that this policy is implemented so that all American women have access to the same level of health care coverage and doing that in a way that hopefully allays some of the concerns that have been expressed,? said White House spokesman Jay Carney, who added, ?We?re focused on trying to get the policy implementation done in the right way.?

Options could include granting leeway for a church-affiliated employer not to cover birth control, provided it referred employees to an insurer who would provide the coverage.

Another idea, previously rejected by the administration, calls for broadening the definition of a religious employer that would be exempt from the mandate beyond houses of worship and institutions whose primary purpose is to spread the faith. That broader approach would track a definition currently used by the IRS, bringing in schools, hospitals and social service agencies that deal with the general public.

Republican White House hopefuls Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have been relentless in assailing the administration, criticizing the president at campaign stops. Romney has accused Obama of an ?assault on religion? and Gingrich called the rule an ?attack on the Catholic Church.?

But Romney has drawn criticism from his GOP rivals and the White House over policies when he was Massachusetts governor.

In late 2005, Romney required all Massachusetts hospitals, including Catholic ones, to provide emergency contraception to rape victims. Some Catholics say the so-called morning-after pill is a form of abortion.

Romney said he did not support the Massachusetts law, which passed despite his veto. But he also said at the time, ?My personal view, in my heart of hearts, is that people who are subject to rape should have the option of having emergency contraception or emergency contraception information.?

White House spokesman Jay Carney seized on that policy at his daily briefing Wednesday.

?The former governor of Massachusetts is an odd messenger on this given that the services that would be provided to women under this rule are the same services that are provided in Massachusetts and were covered when he was governor,? Carney said.

He called it ?ironic that Mitt Romney is criticizing the president? for a policy that Carney described as identical to the one in place in Massachusetts.

Boehner said that if the administration fails to reverse the policy, then Congress will act. He said that in the coming days, the House Energy and Commerce Committee will move ahead on legislation.

A group of House Democratic women sought to frame the issue in economic and health terms, arguing that birth control reduces health costs and stops unintended pregnancies.

In a conference call, Rep. Lois Capps, D-Calif., who said she spoke as a nurse, mother and grandmother, pointed out that 28 states have similar rules on coverage for birth control. Schakowsky pointed out that the rule affects nurses, secretaries and janitorial staff who may not be Catholic.

Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Wis., said the church ?can?t impose its religious views on people and whether they can have health care.?

Obama campaign urges donors to embrace super PAC (AP)

WASHINGTON ? Reversing an earlier stand, President Barack Obama is now encouraging donors to give generously to the kind of political fundraising groups he once assailed as a "threat to democracy." He had little choice, his campaign says, if he was to compete with big-money conservative groups that are sure to attack him this fall.

Obama's campaign is urging its top donors to support Priorities USA, a "super PAC" led by two former Obama aides that has struggled to compete with the tens of millions of dollars collected by Republican-backed outside groups. Campaign officials said Tuesday the president had signed off on the decision.

The president is already facing criticism that he is compromising on principle and succumbing to Washington political rules he pledged to change. Yet in a plea to supporters, campaign manager Jim Messina said it would be unfair and unwise for the president's re-election effort to live under one set of rules while the Republican presidential nominee benefits from a new supercharged campaign finance landscape.

"We decided to do this because we can't afford for the work you're doing in your communities, and the grassroots donations you give to support it, to be destroyed by hundreds of millions of dollars in negative ads," Messina said.

The Supreme Court opened the door to the "super" political action committees, stripping away some limits on campaign contributions in its 2010 decision in the Citizens United case, a ruling that Obama has spoken against. The new super PACs can't coordinate directly with candidates or their campaigns, but they have played a major role in the Republican primary contests by raising millions of dollars for negative advertising in early contests in Iowa, South Carolina and Florida.

Messina said senior campaign officials, along with some White House officials and members of Obama's Cabinet, would attend and speak at fundraising events for Priorities USA but would not directly ask for money. He said Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and first lady Michelle Obama would not be part of the effort and would remain focused on Obama's own re-election campaign.

Republicans jeered Obama's decision, and they weren't alone. Supporters of more openness in government said the president had capitulated on his past calls to rein in the role of money in politics.

Former Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., a longtime advocate for campaign finance limits, said the decision to support the super PAC would "gut a winning, progressive strategy. When Democrats play by Republican rules, people see our party as weak, and a false alternative to the power of rich individual and corporate interests that are increasingly dominating our government."

Bob Edgar, president of Common Cause, said the notion that White House officials "are not soliciting money is laughable."

Republicans criticized the Obama campaign's embrace of the outside groups, calling it a hypocritical shift by Obama after he criticized the influence of secret, special-interest money. Obama has previously referred to the money as a "threat to our democracy."

"Just another broken promise," House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said of Obama's decision.

Not facing any primary opposition, Obama's campaign has socked away tens of millions of dollars. But his team took notice as recent fundraising reports revealed a large disparity with Republican super PACs. American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS, two groups tied to Republican strategist Karl Rove, raised $51 million last year, while major Democratic groups, including Priorities USA Action, collected $19 million.

Obama's campaign and its supporters at Priorities USA and the Democratic National Committee actually have out-spent their Republican counterparts by nearly two to one, records show. Financial reports as of late 2011 show Obama's re-election effort garnered nearly $253 million in contributions and had $95.9 million still on hand.

But the fundraising gap may be starting to narrow. While Obama-supporting groups have largely out-raised Republicans, including Mitt Romney's campaign, GOP-leaning groups such as Restore Our Future, as well as the Republican National Committee, have brought the GOP total to $226 million. That includes the $51 million raised from both American Crossroads and its non-profit arm, Crossroads GPS.

Some other major Republican donors have yet to get behind Romney fully. Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and his family, for instance, have pledged $11 million to help Newt Gingrich, although operatives say he'll likely support Romney as the best chance to beat Obama in the fall. That, combined with yet-to-be-spent cash from other major fundraisers, could tip the money balance in Romney's favor.

Democrats have raised concerns about the potential impact of the super PACs on the general election. Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod said last month that the "prospect of hundreds of millions of dollars of negative ads raining down on us is not a prospect that I relish." But he said then that Obama was "thoroughly known to the American people" and would be less vulnerable to such ads.

Underscoring their concerns, the first ad aired by the Obama campaign defended the president's record on energy and ethics. It came in response to a hard-hitting ad aired by Americans for Prosperity, a group connected to billionaires Charles and David Koch, that accused the president of using taxpayer money to benefit political donors at bankrupt energy company Solyndra.

In a weekend interview, Obama bemoaned the influence of big money in presidential campaigns and said he expected many of the 2012 campaign ads funded by super PACs to be negative. But he also said the Supreme Court's decision had made outside money an unavoidable part of the political process.

"It is very hard to be able to get your message out without having some resources," Obama told NBC News.

The super PACs have played a major role in the Republican primaries so far this year. Groups working for or against presidential candidates have spent roughly $25 million on TV ads ? about half the nearly $53 million spent on advertising in all to influence voters in the early weeks of the race.

Though super PACs can't coordinate directly with campaigns, many that are active this election season are staffed by longtime supporters or former aides of the candidates.

In a separate campaign-finance matter, Obama's campaign said it was returning about $200,000 in contributions collected by family members of a Mexican casino owner who fled the U.S. after facing drug and fraud charges.

Obama's campaign said it had decided to return the donations arranged by Chicago brothers Carlos Cardona and Alberto Rojas Cardona, who had begun raising money for the campaign and the Democratic National Committee last year.

The New York Times reported late Monday that the fundraisers are the brothers of casino owner Juan Jose Rojas Cardona, who skipped bail in Iowa in 1994 and has since been linked to violence and corruption in Mexico.

The campaign said it refunded the money raised by family members after the newspaper asked about the brothers' fundraising role. Obama campaign officials said they were identifying donations bundled by other people connected to Cardona, expected to be about $100,000, and would return those funds as well.

"On the basis of the questions that have been raised, we will return the contributions from these individuals and from any other donors they brought to the campaign," said Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt.

The newspaper reported that Gordon Fischer, a lawyer and the former chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party, had sought a pardon for Juan Jose Rojas Cardona from Iowa Gov. Chet Culver, a Democrat, but none was granted.
