A few gamers in Canada eagerly awaiting the launch of the PS Vita got a welcome surprise this week when their pre-ordered Vita?s arrived in the post.
The official launch of the PS Vita hardware is split between the first edition bundle, available from February 15, and the standard Wi-Fi and 3G editions coming the week after on February 22. However, someone at Amazon in Canada messed up, or at least someone with access to the shipping system did, and started sending out the stock early.
We don?t know how many PS Vitas managed to leave Amazon?s warehouses in Canada, but proof they got delivered can be seen on the Red Flag Deals forum. Images have been posted by the lucky few of the Amazon shipping confirmation and the received unit being unboxed to prove this wasn?t a joke.
The Vitas actually shipped on February 7 to arrive the following day and a week earlier than expected. Unfortunately for other Canadian gamers, Amazon soon realized their mistake and halted all further shipments until next week.
Hopefully those lucky few gamers will spend the week putting the hardware through its paces and letting us know if any issues pop up. Remember, soon after launch in Japan there was a growing number of reports stating the Vita was freezing and the touchscreen became unresponsive.
Sony has now fixed the issues with a software update rather than a hardware recall, so we assume the latest firmware will be shipped with PS Vitas in the West.
